Thousand Oaks is located in the heart of the Conejo Valley
with Los Angeles to the east and the City of Ventura to the west. It is
connected by U.S. Route 101 (Ventura Freeway), as well as State Route 23.
Highway 101 runs through the city and connects it with Los Angeles and Ventura.
Thousand Oaks Transit (TOT) provides public transportation in the form of
shuttles and buses.
The Los Angeles International Airport provides services for
international flights while the Bob Hope Airport (in Burbank) offers domestic
services to the destinations. Los Angeles International Airport is approximately
40 miles southeast of the city, while Burbank Airport is approximately 35 miles
east of the city. Camarillo Airport and Van Nuys Airport are two general
aviation airports. Van Nuys Airport is also one of the busiest general aviation
airports in the nation.

General Information
The city has a wide variety of arts, literature, and music
that elevate its cultural standing. It is known for its artistic expression and
cultural diversity, with numerous arts foundations. The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts
Plaza opened in 1994, hosts a wide range of events, including national touring
presentations, Broadway musicals, contemporary entertainers and symphony
concerts. The Fred Kavli Theatre for the Performing Arts hosts productions as
well as musical and vocal concerts. The Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre is
the place to go to see a variety of dance recitals. The Thousand Oaks has a
City-operated Library and a public golf course named Los Robles Golf Course. It
is also home to the National Park Service Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area
Headquarters and California Lutheran University.
The city follows the Council/Manager form of government. The
economy is based on small businesses like automotive, aerospace, biotechnology,
electronics, healthcare, telecommunications and financing.
Demographic Information
The City of Thousand Oaks is situated in southeastern
Ventura County, California in the United States. The city is commonly referred
to as “T. O.” by locals. It is named so due to the numerous varieties of oak
trees that inhabit the valley. The Ventura County is a mountain-rimmed plateau
situated at 34°11′22″N, 18°52′30″W, at 900 feet above see level. According to
the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 142.5 km². As of
the 2000 census, there were 117,005 people, 41,793 households, and 31,177
families residing in the city. The population density was 823.5/km².
